Dubai Can was launched to encourage residents and visitors to reduce reliance on single-use plastic water bottles and make refilling part of everyday life.

Dubai reported the equivalent of more than 30 million 500ml disposable bottles avoided through Dubai Can, showing how a small repeated behaviour can scale across an entire city.
Dubai expands its move away from single-use plastics.
From 1 January 2026, the final phase of Dubai's current single-use plastic restrictions took effect, covering products including plastic cups and lids, plates and cutlery.
Important: this phase does not mean that all plastic water bottles have been banned.
The UAE's long-term transition.
The UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy sets out programmes across energy, transport, buildings, industry, waste and agriculture, alongside broader circular-economy ambitions.
